A ski in the neighborhood!

Pat, Holly, Ian and Alicia and Hannah in the chariot came to visit us during the snow storm. This helped to pass our Sunday afternoon..we enjoyed cocoa, cider and cookies. We were excited to see the chariot with skiis on it. We can't wait to try out ours with our little lady!

Arctic Blast!

Where the heck are we? The Arctic blast is real here in Portland! I enjoyed my 5 days off of school but I was hoping that the Arctic blast would be over by now but it looks like we are going to have another week of this...yikes! So, meanwhile, I am staying put and praying that our little lady stays put until this wild weather passes!

A visit with Troy and Sonja

Troy and Sonja came out to visit in December! Alana helped to pick out our Christmas tree, it's my favorite tree so far! Ryan is walking all around and Miss Alana is of course always entertaining.

Christmas Card

Merry Christmas from the Larsons!
Adventures in Love 2008
Part Four
Greetings and Happy Holidays from the Larsons! We hope this holiday season finds you well and optimistic during this time of uncertainty in our world. As I am sure most of you are, Eric and I are hunkering down and waiting for the unexpected. I guess that's not entirely true since Eric and I are most certainly AWAITING THE EXPECTED!! However, we are certain that 2009 will bring about exciting adventures for us to embrace.
2007 was a wash of remodeling and catering while 2008 has been a year of slowing down and enjoying the simple things in life. In January I decided that catering full time was not the future I desired for Eric and me. Despite success and a growing business the hours, weeknights, and weekends seemed to consuming for me to embrace for a career for a lifetime. I scaled the business back down to a hobby business and continue to enjoy my personal chef clients, small event catering for friends and family and of course the creativity of custom cakes. I am grateful for the opportunity, lessons learned, the never ending support of Eric, my family and friends as I pursued this adventure.
This spring we spent several weekends in one of our favorite places, Hood River, where we Mt. biked and hiked. In July we were able to move into our new basement and enjoy our deluxe master bedroom and what we now affectionately call the “man cave” which includes a movie room and rock band. Eric and I had planned a weeklong backpacking trip to the eagle caps in August that we were very much looking forward too. Unfortunately, I was left behind due to a knee injury. Eric was able to go with several of our friends and I got to live vicariously through the amazing pictures they captured. I did get to spend the week in La Grande with my parents and upon Eric’s return, along with the arrival of my brother, Jon and his wife, Erika we celebrated my mom’s 60th birthday.
In May I was fortunate to be hired at Tualatin High School teaching Nutrition. I was very excited to be offered a position so close to home. The 15 minute commute is a dream! However, I have invaded the privacy of Uncle Pete and his family, specifically his twin daughters, Maddie and Mikaela who are sophomores at Tualatin High School. Eric likes to tell them we are looking for a home on Willow Street in Tualatin just to push Pete over the edge. Pete has advised us that separate zip codes for family members are best!
Shortly after I accepted the new position, much to our surprise, I discovered we would be expecting a baby in January. Eric was thrilled that he never knowingly submitted to having children! However, after the initial shock wore off and baby preparations have been made, we are both filled with anticipation and excitement upon the birth of our baby girl that will come any day or sometime in January. We expect 2009 will be filled with stories regarding the adventures of parenthood. We look forward to introducing you to our little lady in 2009!
Happy Holidays!
Love, Eric and Heidi

Belly Shots

Kate turned me onto all these websites that specialize in belly shots and babies first few weeks. The pictures were incredible! I fell in love with the idea..however, when I priced them all out I decided it was out of my price range...so...we took our own belly shots! It was fun!

Special thanks to my mom for taking all the pics and of course to Eric who wasn't so sure of the whole siutation but was a good sport!

Kate and Jennifer through a baby shower in November for me. It was a lot of fun, people are still talking about how great the shower was...it will be hard to top! It was a fun day to see all of my friends and celebrate the arrival of our baby girl.

1st Ultra sound: Confirmation
2nd Ultra Sound: Diagnostic testing to try to identify birth defects, downs, etc (optional)
3rd Ultra Sound: Sex identification and a very thorough looking for defects and normal development (this was a long one, it was really fun)
4th Ultra Sound: I had terrible round ligament pain and I was determined it was more than that, I thought my liver/appendix or something was failing b/c the pain was nauseating and I spent a few days only in bed, it was awful! It went away at 26 weeks!
5th Ultra Sound: Due to the horrible round ligament pain my Dr. did a fetal fiber nectin test just to be double sure everything was a-okay. I tested positive for the test indicating that the cervix was beginning to get ready for labor. It was not! It was all a false alarm! We had to go to the hospital twice in 24 hours and do steroid injections, fetal monitor, and heart rate checks. The end ultra sound showed that the cervix was fine.
6th Ultra Sound: I think this was a double check of the length of the cervix for the fetal fiber nectin test, again everything was okay.
7th Ultra Sound: I believe at 32 weeks I was not measuring large enough from pelvic to the top of my belly. Then at 33 weeks I was still not measuring correctly so I had the 7th ultra sound, again, everything was okay!

Beach Trips...

Eric and I are visiting the beach this fall and winter frequently. We went out with our friends for a Cross bike race, we used up a gift certificate from Eric's work to Rock away and we are headed back with our families for Thanksgiving. We have lucked out so far, two out of three trips we have had sunshine!

Halloween!

While camping on the North Umpqua this summer, our friends asked us how big the baby was this week and I reported that she was squirrel size according to the baby book. Shortly after she was nicknamed squirrel girl, and I have been referred to as squirrel cage...anyway...Ryan carved a squirrel girl pumpkin for halloween. Here we are comparing tummy size. I win! Ryan is sporting his skin tattoo shirt!

1st Belly Shot!

Every week I have said that I will take a picture of the belly progress. I have been terrible about doing so. This was the first one I took. I believe I was at 26-28 weeks. I wish I would have been better at taking a weekly shot to show the progress...it would have been a little more interesting. But at least at this point I looked like I was pregnant not just chubby!

The Grandma's working on the baby room items

I feel so fortunate that I have two mom's who are amazing seamstresses! They worked very hard for one weekend to make curtains, bumpers, crib sheets, and crib ruffle. It turned out so sweet. What a lucky little lady our baby is to have such a great Grandma and Nana!

Just the four of us...

Eric and I started this adventure the winter of 2000...a very long love storey but eventually lead us to marriage. We have spent three great years being a "married couple" and loving almost every minute of it! I thought having two dogs kept us busy but throwing a baby into the mix should make things even more interesting. McCall and Loki have kept things entertaining but most of all our family and friends have played a huge roll in helping us to continue to enjoy life. The last three years have been characterized by vacations to Boston, McCall, camping, biking, cross racing, book club, remodeling and catering. In general, we have both learned a lot about companionship and the art of balancing work and play. Play being the main success to our happiness and success. We only hope that we can pass our love of playing onto to our baby so that she too won't take this world to seriously.
